Mumbai, Feb 3 (PTI) – The Maharashtra government has made it mandatory for officials in all government and semi-government offices across the state to communicate exclusively in Marathi. A Government Resolution (GR) issued on Monday reinforced this directive, extending the requirement to local self-government bodies, government corporations, and government-aided establishments.

The resolution warns that officials failing to adhere to this directive will face disciplinary action. This move aligns with the Marathi Language Policy, which was approved last year to promote and preserve the language in public affairs.

As part of this initiative, the GR also mandates that all personal computer (PC) keyboards in government offices must include Marathi Devanagari alphabets alongside Roman characters to facilitate smooth communication in the language.

The Maharashtra government’s decision marks a significant step in strengthening the use of Marathi in administrative affairs, ensuring its wider implementation across the state.
