Families Join EJAC Sit-in Seeking Regularisation of Workers
Hundreds of contractual and daily-wage employees along with their families staged a peaceful protest at Sher-e-Kashmir Park, urging the government to expedite the decision on regularisation of services.
February 12, Srinagar: Hundreds of contractual and daily-wage employees, along with their families and children, staged a sit-in protest at Sher-e-Kashmir Park on Thursday under the banner of the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC), demanding regularisation of services across Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, EJAC General Secretary Sajad Ahmad Parray said that the participation of families and children reflects the deep impact of prolonged uncertainty on workers' households, particularly on the education and future of their children. He said the movement would continue until justice is delivered to all temporary employees.
Parray urged the government to address EJAC’s concerns before the Chief Secretary-led committee submits its report on regularisation in the Assembly. He reiterated that the employees are seeking justice and dignity and called upon the authorities to resolve the issue without further delay.
During the protest, families and children raised slogans, stating that delays in regularisation have adversely affected their livelihoods and created financial instability.
A day earlier, Parray had appealed for the Prime Minister’s personal intervention in the matter and urged political parties and public representatives to treat the issue as one of social responsibility.
The protest concluded peacefully, with EJAC reiterating its commitment to continue democratic means of agitation until their demands are fulfilled.
