Patna, February 14 The Bihar government has earned approximately Rs 6 crore in revenue from the registration of vehicles with preferred and special numbers in the last two months, Transport Minister Sharwan Kumar said on Saturday.

According to data provided by the state transport department, a total of 4,117 vehicle owners chose their preferred numbers through e-auction between December 1, 2025, and February 13, 2026.

"The transport department has earned Rs 5.95 crore through the e-auction of special and preferred vehicle registration numbers in the last two months," Kumar told reporters.

"The department has introduced an online booking system for special number registration. Vehicle owners intending to participate in this auction register their name and select the desired number on the department's website during the bidding period, and those who pay the highest amount are allocated the special and preferred numbers," the minister said.

This is the first time that the department has earned approximately Rs 6 crore through e-auction of special numbers in just two months, the minister stated.

Patna topped the list, while vehicle owners in Khagaria and Sheohar showed the least interest in special numbers.

According to the transport department data, residents of Patna spent Rs 2.46 crore on special numbers, while people in Khagaria and Sheohar spent only Rs 93,500 and Rs 52,000, respectively.

Revenue of Rs 52.17 lakh was generated from Muzaffarpur district, Rs 41 lakh from Gaya, and Rs 33.53 lakh from Purnea.

According to officials, the most sought-after numbers were 0001, 0003, 0005, 0007, and 0009.

Vehicle owners must pay a special fee for the selected numbers, which are categorized into five groups (A, B, C, D, and E), each with a specific fee.

Group A's reserved numbers, such as 0001, 0003, 0005, 0007, and 0009, cost Rs 1 lakh for non-transport vehicles and Rs 35,000 for transport vehicles, they added.
