Students facing difficulties in getting jobs, says AAP member

New Delhi, Feb 4 (PTI) – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney on Tuesday voiced concern over the growing challenges faced by students in securing job placements. Highlighting the issue during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, he emphasized the urgent need for measures to combat unemployment, including strengthening the manufacturing sector.

Sahney pointed out that despite being premier institutions, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) witnessed a placement crisis, with 38% of IIT graduates remaining unplaced last year. He also noted a slowdown in hiring within the Indian IT sector, traditionally a major employment generator.

Expressing concerns over access to financial aid, Sahney stated that stringent banking norms made it difficult for aspiring entrepreneurs to secure loans under the PM MUDRA scheme. While acknowledging self-employment and entrepreneurship as vital solutions to the employment crisis, he stressed that there remains a significant gap between policy frameworks and their implementation on the ground.

The AAP leader urged the government to take decisive steps to revamp the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, bolster manufacturing under the 'Make in India' initiative, and establish stronger industry-academia linkages to bridge the employment gap.

In other Zero Hour mentions, BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari raised concerns over frequent accidents on national highways and called for stringent preventive measures. AAP MP Ashok Kumar Mittal advocated for reforms in the insurance sector, highlighting the difficulties faced by common citizens in claiming insurance, in stark contrast to the swift approvals often granted to celebrities.

Meanwhile, BJP MP S Selvaganabathy drew attention to the adverse effects of climate change on agriculture, warning that it poses a severe threat to food security. He urged the government to adopt a war-footing approach to monitor and mitigate the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector.

The issues raised underscored critical economic and social challenges, prompting calls for swift government action.
