New Delhi, May 12 – Second Chance, the debut feature film by filmmaker Subhadra Mahajan, is set for a theatrical release across India on June 13. Shot entirely in black-and-white, the film has already garnered critical acclaim at prestigious international festivals including its world premiere at the 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festivaland Asia premiere at the 28th Busan International Film Festival.
A Story of Healing in the Himalayas
Second Chance follows the journey of a young woman coping with the trauma of a life-altering event. She seeks solace in her family's summer retreat nestled in the Himalayas, where time, nature, and unexpected connections help her rediscover herself. The film stars Dheera Johnson, Thakri Devi, and Kanav Thakur in lead roles.Subhadra Mahajan, who previously co-wrote Angry Indian Goddesses, shared that this film emerges from a deeply personal space. “At every step—from early development to its premiere—the film has been embraced by those who made it their own,” she said. She added that the support from Platoon One Films, the Indian distributor, has been pivotal in bringing the story to the audience.

Produced by Shyam Bora, with Pan Nalin and Swapnil S. Sonawane as executive producers, the film is co-produced by Naren Chandavarkar, Sidharth Meer, and Bhaskar Hazarika. It is a collaboration between Latent Pictures and Metanormal Motion Pictures, with Bridge PostWorks and Moonweave Films as co-producers. Shiladitya Bora, founder of Platoon One Films, described Second Chance as “an intimate yet expansive film that deserves a theatre-first approach.” The company will implement a staggered, long-tail release strategy beginning in key urban centers such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, and Kochi, with wider expansion planned over the following weeks.Bora cited their previous success with Anamika Haksar’s Sundance-winning film Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon, which enjoyed a 56-day theatrical run, as a model for Second Chance.
