Phagwara (Punjab), May 15 — A 25-year-old Sudanese student was tragically stabbed to death while offering morning prayers near a private university in Phagwara on Thursday. Another Sudanese national accompanying him was critically injured in the attack, police said.

The victim, identified as Mohammed Wada Bala Yousif Ahmed, had been residing in a paying guest accommodation in Maheru Colony. His injured friend, Ahmed Mohammed Nour, is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jalandhar.

Six Accused Named in the Complaint​

According to the police complaint filed by Nour, he, Wada, and three female friends were offering their morning prayers when six individuals approached and began verbally abusing them. Two of the accused were reportedly armed with knives.

Nour stated that one of the assailants demanded the phone number of his sister. When the group objected to the harassment, the attackers allegedly stabbed both Wada and Nour in the chest before fleeing the scene.

Local Resident Rushed Victims to Hospital​

A resident, Prabhat Dubey, came to the students' aid and transported them to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared Wada dead on arrival, according to officials.

Nour named six individuals in his complaint:
  • Abdul Ahad (Karnataka)
  • Kunwar Amar Partap Singh
  • Aditya Garg
  • Mohammed Shoaib
  • Sushank Shaggy
  • Yash Vardhan Rajput
    All the latter five are residents of Maheru Colony.

Investigation and Embassy Notification Underway​

Phagwara Superintendent of Police Rupinder Kaur Bhatti confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the accused.

Police are coordinating with the Sudanese embassy and informing the family of the deceased regarding the incident.

The case has sparked concern among the international student community in the region, raising questions about safety and communal harmony near educational institutions.
