Mumbai, Feb 3 (PTI) — Acclaimed writer-director Sudip Sharma has offered a first glimpse of the much-anticipated second season of his crime thriller series Kohrra. Streaming giant Netflix unveiled the first look at its 2025 slate announcement event, raising excitement for the return of the gritty Punjab-set police procedural.
Actor Barun Sobti reprises his role as Garundi, the sharp but troubled young police officer, while Mona Singh joins the cast as Dhanwant Kaur, his no-nonsense superior. The new season continues the show's signature blend of crime, drama, and deeply personal conflicts.
According to the official synopsis, the story unfolds when a woman, estranged from her husband, is found brutally murdered in her brother’s home. Garundi, now recently transferred, is teamed up with Kaur to solve the case. However, as their investigation progresses, they discover that the complexities of their own lives mirror the tangled web of the murder mystery.
Sharma, who serves as showrunner, producer, and co-director alongside Faisal Rahman, hinted at a deeper narrative in the upcoming season. Speaking at the event, he acknowledged the unexpected success of Kohrra's first season, particularly Suvinder Vicky’s breakout performance as Balbir Singh.
“It has everything the first season had—plus more,” Sharma said. “This time, it’s a more mature kind of love story alongside the investigation drama. I’d say it’s even more of a relationship-driven narrative. And with Mona (Singh) joining, it brings a fresh, much-needed feminine energy.”
Sobti, who won praise for his performance in the debut season, assured fans that the new season would exceed expectations. “Expect a lot, and we will still surpass it,” he said confidently.
For Mona Singh, playing a cop for the first time was a thrilling challenge. “It has been a beautiful, satisfying, and challenging journey. There are many firsts for me. I did action, played a cop, and had a lot of fun. As an actor and a human being, I feel very happy and satisfied,” she shared.
The second season of Kohrra is written by Gunjit Chopra, Diggi Sisodia, and Sudip Sharma. It is produced by Film Squad Productions in collaboration with Act Three Productions.
With its gripping storytelling and complex characters, Kohrra Season 2 promises to deliver another thrilling chapter in this intense crime saga. Fans eagerly await its return on Netflix in 2025.
