Mumbai, February 27 – Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Supriya Sule has called for an expedited investigation into the Mahadev Munde murder case, urging Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavisto hand over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
In a letter to the CM, Baramati MP Sule emphasized the prolonged delay in the case, stating that despite more than a year passing since Munde’s abduction on October 19, 2023, and subsequent confirmation of his murder on October 22, the perpetrators remain at large. She expressed concern over the lack of arrests, which has not only caused distress to Munde’s family but also raised serious questions about the investigation’s effectiveness.
Allegations of Political Influence and Threats to Family
Sule also highlighted allegations from Munde’s family, who claimed that influential individuals were obstructing justice and had even issued threats. According to her letter, on January 10, 2024, Munde’s family received threatening calls from unknown persons, adding urgency to the demand for a transparent and impartial probe under the supervision of senior officials.Calling for swift action, Sule asserted that solving the case was crucial for restoring public confidence in law enforcement and upholding Maharashtra’s reputation.
Beed District Under Scrutiny Amid Political Controversy
The Mahadev Munde murder is not the only case raising concerns in Beed district. The area recently made headlines after the abduction and murder of Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh on December 9, 2024. Reports suggest that Deshmukh was tortured and killed for opposing an extortion bid involving an energy company in the region. The opposition has intensified its attack on Maharashtra minister Dhananjay Munde, especially after his close aide, Walmik Karad, was arrested in an extortion case linked to Deshmukh’s murder.
With growing political pressure and public outcry, all eyes are now on the Maharashtra government’s response to Supriya Sule’s demand for a CBI or SIT intervention in the Mahadev Munde case.
