New Delhi, Feb 3 (PTI) – The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has reiterated its commitment to cooperating with the INDIA bloc and regional parties to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while prioritizing mass mobilization to rebuild its support base. This strategy was outlined in the party’s draft political resolution adopted at a recent Central Committee meeting in Kolkata.

The CPI(M) acknowledged the need for focused rebuilding efforts in West Bengal and Tripura to enhance its political strength. The draft resolution highlighted the BJP-led government's "aggressive Hindutva drive," citing the state-sponsored inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the passage of the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, and various state laws allegedly targeting minorities as key examples.

This draft resolution comes in the run-up to the CPI(M)'s 24th Congress, scheduled to be held from April 2-6 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Challenges and Strategic Focus

Despite its continued presence, the CPI(M) admitted that electoral results indicate stagnation in its influence and voter base. To address this, the party aims to expand its reach among organized sector workers in manufacturing and strategic industries, while also advocating for contractual workers' rights.

The resolution stressed the importance of independent political campaigns and mass mobilization. In West Bengal, CPI(M) plans to focus on the rural poor and their organization while intensifying its opposition to both the BJP and the Trinamool Congress (TMC). In Tripura, the party intends to fortify its grassroots presence and implement programs that unify the working class while addressing the specific concerns of tribal communities.

Performance in Kerala and Nationwide Outlook

While Kerala remains CPI(M)'s strongest base, the draft resolution admitted weaknesses in its political and ideological approach to countering the BJP, particularly in the wake of Lok Sabha election results.

The party reaffirmed that "fighting and defeating the BJP-RSS" and the "Hindutva-corporate nexus" remains its foremost objective. It called for the mobilization of secular forces to resist Hindutva communalism and the BJP-led government's neoliberal policies, which it claimed exacerbate worker exploitation.

CPI(M) emphasized continued collaboration with INDIA bloc parties in Parliament and on shared issues outside it. Additionally, the party seeks to strengthen ties with regional parties that firmly oppose the BJP. Reviving and reinforcing Left unity was also highlighted, with a push to bring all Left and democratic forces together through mass movements and social initiatives.

As the party prepares for its national congress in April, its renewed strategy underscores the urgency to reclaim lost ground while building stronger alliances against the ruling BJP.
