The Election Commission of India has instructed all the District Election Officers of West Bengal to ensure that documents required by the Commission and the Supreme Court are uploaded as part of the ongoing Systematic Identification of Voter (SIR) process.
The Commission clarified on February 16th at 5 pm that all District Election Officers (DEOs) would personally review all documents submitted by citizens during the hearing phase. If any unauthorized documents are found to have been uploaded after this review, the DEOs will be held responsible.
The full bench of the ECI, led by the Chief Election Commissioner, held a virtual meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal, attended by the DEOs and special roll observers, to review the SIR process.
Reports of uploading improper documents emerged from various locations in West Bengal, prompting the Commission to take a firm stance.
