Colombo, February 11 Australia's stand-in captain Travis Head won the toss and chose to bat against Ireland in their T20 World Cup match here on Wednesday.
Regular captain Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of Australia's opening match due to a groin injury.
Ireland, on the other hand, have maintained their unchanged squad.
