Kolkata, February 14. England won the toss and chose to bowl against Scotland in the Group C match of the 2026 T20 World Cup, held at Eden Gardens on Saturday.
Both teams have named the same playing eleven for the match.
England captain Harry Brook said, "We will bowl first. We believe we can chase down their total here, as the outfield is fast and the pitch is also good. I am not the curator, but it seems like a decent pitch. So, hopefully, we can restrict them to as few runs as possible and then chase it down."
On announcing the playing XI in advance, Brook said, "We just want to give the team more clarity. I want them to be prepared for the game, knowing the team composition a day before. I think we were a little too cautious with our batting. We should have been more aggressive. Hopefully, we can do that today."
Praising the Scottish side, he said, "They are a very good team. They have played here before, and we will certainly not take them lightly."
Scotland captain Richie Berrington said, "We were probably going to bat first. But I think the toss here shouldn't make much difference. Honestly, it looks quite similar (to the last game). It has obviously been good for us to get a feel of the conditions here, playing the last couple of games. So, I think, in general, it has been a good batting pitch. I think the key will probably be how we play spin in that middle period."
"Look, we are obviously up against a very good team. I think they are used to travelling and adapting to different conditions. But it will also be key for us. It's a new day, a new pitch. But yeah, it has been a good experience for us to get used to the conditions here, and hopefully, we can take some of the positives from the last couple of performances into today's game."
