New Delhi, February 11 India, known for their aggressive batting style, has realized the need to adapt after a concerning performance in the T20 World Cup opener against the USA.
The management has had to re-evaluate its strategy after collapsing to 77 for six on a challenging wicket.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav played a crucial role in getting the team out of trouble.
Tilak, who has been performing well in T20 cricket in the last six months, emphasized the importance of taking time at the crease when wickets fall quickly.
He and Suryakumar have been designated to hold one end at numbers three and four.
"We have discussed this, that we have been successful at numbers three and four, so especially me and Surya Bhai, we are good at taking singles, we can find the gaps, because you know the other openers, Abhishek, who hits sixes, Ishan is with him. Sanju Bhai is also there, he is going to hit, and you know the batsmen below, who are our powerful batsmen," Tilak explained a slight tactical adjustment if needed.
"So I think that in the tournament, the team that plays well between the 6th and 16th over, that team wins, so that's why we are taking this responsibility, at 3 and 4, that we will take responsibility, and manage the pressure situation," said the left-handed batsman.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir has also emphasized the importance of playing out an over or two when wickets fall in a cluster.
"Gautam sir also didn't say much to us, but he did say that when you are in such a pressure situation, to be honest, we had given 1-2 wickets to the USA team, so at that time he said that we can read the conditions a little earlier," Gambhir said.
"We know the aggressive approach. We can also stop for 1-2 overs and accelerate again, considering the strength of our batting, when the wickets fall," Tilak added.
"I feel strange when I don't hold the bat for two days: Tilak on comeback from surgery"
