Chennai, Feb 3 (PTI): AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami has demanded a thorough investigation into the shocking allegations made by senior IPS officer Kalpana Nayak, who claimed an attempt was made on her life for exposing irregularities in police recruitment.

Calling the incident a "blot on the police department", Palaniswami urged the Tamil Nadu government to ensure strict legal action against those responsible and provide adequate security for Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kalpana Nayak.

Palaniswami Questions CM Stalin Over Security Lapse

In a strong-worded social media post, the former Chief Minister criticized the ruling DMK government under Chief Minister M K Stalin, holding them fully accountable for the "condemnable and shameful" state of affairs in the police department. He questioned how such a serious security breach could occur under the government’s watch.

"It is appalling that an attempt was made on an officer’s life simply for exposing corruption within her own department. What answer does Chief Minister M K Stalin have for this?" Palaniswami asked.

Fire Incident Raises Alarming Questions

The controversy surfaced after reports emerged that Kalpana Nayak's official chamber was gutted in a fire last year, a development that has only recently come to light. At the time, she was serving as ADGP of the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board.

Nayak has reportedly stated that she "would have lost her life" had she been present in her office at the time of the fire, a revelation that Palaniswami called "deeply shocking".

Demand for Transparent Investigation

Raising concerns over law and order in the state, Palaniswami questioned how ordinary citizens could feel safe when a high-ranking IPS officer's life is under threat.

"If this could happen to an ADGP-rank officer, how can common people boldly voice their grievances?" he asked.

He demanded a transparent and independent probe into Nayak’s allegations and called for strict action against those found responsible.

The unfolding case has sparked intense political debate, with opposition leaders pressing the Stalin-led DMK government for accountability and justice.
