Chennai witnesses 3.7-km march with ministers, cadets, and citizens rallying behind Indian military
Chennai, May 10 – In a powerful show of unity and patriotism, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin led a massive rally on Saturday to express solidarity with the Indian armed forces amid ongoing military tensions with Pakistan.The 3.7-km march, which started from the Director General of Police office and concluded at the War Memorial near Island Grounds, saw the participation of several hundred people. State ministers, top government officials, Director General of Police Shankar Jiwal, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, school and college students, fire and rescue services personnel, police officers, and ex-servicemen walked shoulder to shoulder with the Chief Minister, all carrying the national Tricolour.
Public support and civic preparedness
Amid a severe heatwave in the city, the Greater Chennai Corporation ensured the comfort and safety of participants by setting up 200 shelters along the route. To combat dehydration and heat exhaustion, 71 drinking water points and 50 toilets were made available, while 15 ambulances were on standby for emergencies. ORS sachets were distributed and participants were advised to bring their own water bottles.The rally, which took close to an hour, served not only as a show of support for the troops but also as a public demonstration of Tamil Nadu’s unity during a time of national crisis.
Governor praises CM Stalin’s initiative
Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi commended the Chief Minister’s leadership in organizing the rally, stating on social media platform X, “This public rally expresses the unequivocal solidarity of our eight crore people of Tamil Nadu with the Indian armed forces valiantly and successfully defending the nation against the Pakistani military aggression.”He added, “Our nation stands united and resolute alongside our armed forces, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to wipe out all modes of terror and safeguard our national sovereignty.”
This large-scale public demonstration follows escalating tensions on the border, with Indian forces actively engaged in defending the nation. The rally reflected widespread civilian support and highlighted the deep respect and admiration for the armed forces across Tamil Nadu.
