Calls for Parliamentary Resolution to Safeguard State's Rights
Udhagamandalam (Tamil Nadu), April 6 – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the growing concerns in the state regarding the proposed delimitation exercise, which many fear could impact the state's political representation.Speaking at an official function in Udhagamandalam after launching multiple development initiatives and announcing new schemes for the hill station, Stalin emphasized the need for a clear and reassuring stance from the central government.
Stalin Seeks PM Meeting to Present Delimitation Concerns
"We have sought an appointment with the Prime Minister to present a memorandum outlining our concerns on the proposed delimitation," Stalin said. Highlighting the PM’s scheduled visit to Rameswaram later in the day, Stalin explained his absence from Modi’s event, stating that he had deputed Ministers Thangam Thennarasu and Raja Kannappan to represent him.“Through this meeting and through this platform, I appeal to the Prime Minister to allay the fears surrounding delimitation,” Stalin said, directly addressing the concerns of the people.
Demands Resolution in Parliament
In a strong message, Stalin also called for a formal resolution in Parliament to ensure that Tamil Nadu’s rights remain protected."You (Modi) should ensure that a resolution is passed in Parliament. Delimitation not only risks reducing our Parliamentary seats, but it also raises serious concerns about our political future. This is our right to question and safeguard," Stalin stressed.
Allegations Against BJP-Led Centre
The Chief Minister accused the ruling BJP government of attempting to dilute Tamil Nadu’s representation through the delimitation process. “Including Puducherry, there are 40 Parliamentary seats. But the BJP is trying to shrink our voice under the guise of delimitation,” he charged.National-Level Dialogue Held on Delimitation
Stalin also referred to a recent Joint Action Committee meeting held on March 22 in Chennai, which brought together Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and prominent political leaders from across the country. The meeting aimed to foster a collective response to ensure a fair and transparent delimitation process.
