Tamil Nadu Politics: DMK's Stance on Power Sharing Sparks Debate.webp

Chennai, February 11 The DMK is using its allies solely to gain votes without giving them a share in power, and this is against social justice, TVK leader K G Arunraj said on Wednesday.

His comments come in the wake of the ruling DMK and its principal ally, the Congress, sparring over power-sharing, a concept unfamiliar to Tamil Nadu's political history, which has been dominated by Dravidian parties.

While senior Congress leaders, including Lok Sabha MP Manickam Tagore, have been vocal about power-sharing, DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin made it clear on Wednesday that while the alliance between the two parties was intact, there was no possibility of sharing power in the state.

"If you look at the situation, one thing must be observed closely. If you look at the chair used by the Chief Minister, only one leg belongs to the DMK, while the rest belong to the alliance parties. In that case, using alliance parties only for securing votes without giving them a share in power is an act against social justice," Arunraj said.

"Even if they (DMK) have won over 130 seats, the contribution of alliance parties exists in every single constituency. Can they deny that?" the former IRS officer asked.

Targeting the ruling DMK regime, Arunraj, the party's propaganda secretary, said that if the DMK was not willing to share power with its alliance partners, then Stalin should declare that his party will contest elections alone.

"Let them contest alone and then claim there is no share in power," he said.

On the question of TVK's alliance, he said, "everyone is eager to know that. Our leader (Vijay) will make a decision on that at the appropriate time."
