Agra, February 28 – In a distressing incident echoing the Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash's suicide last December, a 30-year-old software professional from Agra, Manav Sharma, took his own life, leaving behind a video blaming his wife for his tragic decision.

Manav, a resident of Defence Colony, worked as a manager for a Mumbai-based tech firm. He had married Niketa on January 30 last year. On February 24, he was found dead by hanging at his home, just a day after returning from his in-laws' place in Agra.

Case Registered, Police Probe Underway

Following a complaint from Manav’s father, Narendra Sharma, the police have registered a case under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators are now examining the circumstances that led to his death.

According to the complaint, Manav and his wife, Niketa, visited Agra on February 23. That evening, Manav accompanied Niketa to her parents' home, where he was allegedly insulted. Distressed, he returned home and ended his life around 5 AM on February 24.

Before taking this extreme step, Manav recorded a video on his phone, blaming his wife for pushing him to suicide. The footage has since gone viral, intensifying the case's scrutiny.

Niketa Refutes Allegations, Cites Domestic Abuse

As the video gained traction online, Niketa released a counter-video, alleging that Manav had a history of alcohol-induced violence and had previously attempted suicide multiple times, which she had prevented.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vinayak Bhosale confirmed that Manav’s post-mortem was conducted on February 24, but no formal complaint was lodged at the time. The case gained momentum when Manav’s sister discovered the video on his phone, prompting legal action.

"We will consider Niketa's statement along with other evidence in our investigation. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings," ACP Bhosale stated, acknowledging that the couple had a troubled relationship.

Similarities with Bengaluru Techie’s Suicide

This case bears a striking resemblance to the death of Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash on December 9, 2024. Subhash had also recorded a video before ending his life, claiming mental harassment by his estranged wife.

As authorities investigate the Agra case, the tragic incident has reignited conversations on marital discord, mental health, and the impact of emotional distress in relationships.
