Hyderabad, Feb 27: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, urging swift approval for key infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the Hyderabad Metro Rail and financial assistance for the rejuvenation of the Musi River.
During the meeting on Wednesday, Reddy highlighted that the previous administration had neglected metro expansion over its decade-long tenure. He presented plans for the second phase of the metro project, spanning 76.4 km across five corridors, with an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore, and sought the Centre’s immediate clearance.
Additionally, the CM emphasized the necessity of a Dry Port near the Regional Ring Road (RRR) in Hyderabad to facilitate exports and imports, given Telangana's landlocked geography. He proposed a greenfield road and rail networkto connect this Dry Port to a seaport, aiming to bolster trade efficiency.
Focusing on urban renewal, Reddy requested ₹20,000 crore in central assistance for the Musi River redevelopment project. The project includes:
- Restoration of Bapu Ghat, a Mahatma Gandhi memorial on the Musi banks.
- Construction of 27 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to improve water quality.
- Strengthening of retaining walls along the river.
- A proposed link between the Musi and the Godavari River to enhance water sustainability.
Regarding road and railway connectivity, he urged Modi to approve the southern section of the RRR, noting that 90% of the land acquisition for the northern section is already completed. He argued that the RRR would be optimally utilized only if both segments were developed simultaneously. Additionally, he proposed a Regional Ring Rail projectparallel to the RRR to enhance railway connectivity within Telangana and its neighboring states.
The meeting signals Telangana’s push for large-scale infrastructure projects aimed at urban development, economic growth, and improved connectivity.
