Telangana Legislative Council Elections Underway: High-Stakes Battle Among Key Parties

Hyderabad, Feb 27 – Voting is in progress for the closely contested Telangana Legislative Council elections across three constituencies. The elections are being held in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates' and Teachers' constituencies and the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers' constituency under the preferential voting system.

Polling commenced at 8 AM and will continue until 4 PM, with authorities ensuring comprehensive arrangements for a smooth electoral process.

A total of 56 candidates are competing for the lone Graduates' constituency, while 15 candidates are in the fray for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Teachers' constituency, and 19 candidates for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda Teachers' constituency.

The BJP has fielded candidates for all three seats, with Union Coal Minister and state BJP president G Kishan Reddy, along with Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar, actively campaigning for the party. Meanwhile, the ruling Congress has nominated a candidate only for the Graduates' constituency, with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and state Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud leading the campaign efforts.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has opted to stay out of this election. The BJP has emphasized its commitment to addressing the concerns of teachers and unemployed youth, asserting that its elected representatives will work towards the welfare of graduates, educators, and other educated sections.

The counting of votes is scheduled for March 3, with results expected to influence the state's political landscape.
