Tension in Beed Village After Green Flag Erected at Temple During Gudi Padwa-Eid Overlap

Police Intervene to Calm Communities in Pachegaon, No Case Registered

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, April 1 — A brief period of tension gripped Pachegaon village in Maharashtra’s Beed district after a green flag was placed at a local temple alongside a saffron one, coinciding with the celebrations of Eid and Gudi Padwa.

According to officials from the Georai police station, the incident occurred on Monday, a day after the Kanifnath temple in Pachegaon held its annual yatra as part of Gudi Padwa festivities. On the following day, which marked Eid celebrations, some individuals hoisted a green flag at the temple premises next to an existing saffron flag.

The move led to unease between two local communities. Responding swiftly, police engaged with residents from both groups and successfully defused the situation. Authorities confirmed that both flags were subsequently removed from the religious site to maintain peace.

"No case has been registered in connection with the incident," the police official stated, adding that the matter was resolved amicably through dialogue.

The timely intervention of law enforcement ensured that the situation remained under control, preventing any escalation in communal tensions.
