Sitamarhi, Feb 27: A tense situation prevailed in Bihar's Sitamarhi district on Thursday after idols in a village temple were vandalized by unidentified individuals, according to local authorities.
The incident was reported from Paramanandpur village, where idols of Lord Shiva and Kartikeya were found desecrated in the morning, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sadar) Ram Krishna.
Local residents suspect that the act occurred late Wednesday night, following the conclusion of Mahashivratri celebrations. However, the police have not confirmed any suspects as no one was seen entering the temple premises at the time of the incident.
"Technical experts have been engaged to analyze the site and gather potential evidence," said the DSP, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
To prevent any unrest, heavy police deployment has been made in the area. District Magistrate Richie Pandey, along with other senior officials, visited the village and urged residents to maintain peace.
Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible once the investigation yields concrete leads.
