Thane Businessman Cheated of Rs 22.4 Lakh in Used Vehicle Deal; Four Booked

Thane, May 11 – A case has been registered against four individuals in Maharashtra’s Thane district for allegedly cheating a businessman of Rs 22.4 lakh in a used vehicle business venture, police said on Sunday.

According to officials from Bhiwandi police, the FIR was filed on May 7 based on a complaint by Awaral Mohammad Rafiq Mohammed. The accused have been identified as Manzoor alias Raja Khan, Abul Kalam, Yaar Mohammad, and Hidan Mohammad.

The complaint states that in 2020, the complainant entered a business partnership with Khan to trade used vehicles. Subsequently, Kalam joined the partnership. From June 2022 to February 2023, the group reportedly purchased damaged cars worth over Rs 47 lakh from Gujarat to repair and resell them. Mohammed invested Rs 22.44 lakh in this venture.

However, the accused allegedly sold the vehicles to third parties without the complainant’s knowledge and misappropriated the funds.

The FIR further alleges that the complainant was assaulted, threatened, and had his motorcycle forcibly taken by the accused. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
