Thane, March 7: A 38-year-old man from Chikloli, Ambernath, in Maharashtra's Thane district, has allegedly lost ₹13.54 lakh after falling prey to a fraudulent foreign exchange trading scheme promising high returns, police reported on Friday.
According to authorities, the victim was approached by suspects between February 2 and February 14. The accused, identified as Anup Kamal, Sonia, and Hamza Khan, convinced him to invest substantial amounts into forex trading, promising exceptionally lucrative returns.
Believing their assurances, the complainant transferred a cumulative sum of ₹13.54 lakh to multiple bank accounts provided by the suspects. However, upon requesting his promised returns, the accused individuals abruptly ceased communication and became unreachable.
Realizing he had been defrauded, the victim filed a complaint with the Ambarnath West police station. Authorities have registered an FIR against Kamal, Sonia, and Khan under charges of cheating.
Police officials have launched an active investigation to locate the accused and recover the stolen funds.
