Thane, Feb 3 (PTI) – In a tragic turn of events in Maharashtra’s Thane district, a 38-year-old man, identified as Amin Shaikh, died by suicide on January 14 after allegedly facing relentless harassment over a loan repayment.
Shaikh had initially borrowed ₹1.80 lakh from three individuals. Despite repaying a total of ₹3.30 lakh—covering both the principal and additional interest—he was reportedly still threatened and coerced for more money. Overwhelmed by this pressure, he was found hanging at his home in the Ganeshpuri area.
Following the incident, local authorities registered a case of accidental death and sent Shaikh’s body for postmortem. However, during their investigation, police discovered a recorded message on the victim’s mobile phone. In that message, Shaikh allegedly implicated three persons for driving him to take the extreme step.
Based on the evidence, an FIR was filed last Friday under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police have arrested one person linked to the case, while the other two suspects remain at large. The search for the remaining accused continues.
