Thane Police Arrest Engineering Student for Alleged Sexual Harassment of Schoolgirl

Thane, April 11 — An 18-year-old engineering student has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a Class 9 schoolgirl in Maharashtra's Thane city, police confirmed on Friday.


Incident Took Place While Girl Was Returning Home​


According to the police, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning when the girl was on her way home from school. The accused reportedly approached her, hugged her without consent, and touched her inappropriately. These details were cited in the FIR registered following the complaint.


Complaint Lodged by Girl’s Mother​


After the girl narrated the incident, her mother promptly reported the matter to the Wagle Estate police station. Authorities acted on the complaint and registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 75 (sexual harassment) and 78 (stalking), along with relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.


Accused Arrested During Internship​


Sub-inspector Atul Jagtap stated that the accused, who is currently undergoing an internship as part of his engineering education, was arrested shortly after the complaint was filed. He remains in police custody pending further investigation.
