Indore, Feb 3 (PTI) – The colorful and culturally rich Bhagoriya Haat fairs, which offer a fascinating glimpse into the tribal traditions of Madhya Pradesh, are set to commence from March 7 in various districts of western MP, just ahead of Holi celebrations.
These traditional fairs, deeply rooted in the heritage of the Bhils and other tribal communities, will be organized at over 100 locations across the tribal-dominated districts of Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Khargone, and Barwani. Known for their vibrant atmosphere, folk music, and traditional dance, these fairs attract tourists and culture enthusiasts from across India and beyond.
“These fairs begin a week before Holika Dahan, bringing together tribal families who return to their villages to celebrate. The Bhagoriya fair is an integral part of their cultural identity,” Tanwar explained.
Young men and women eagerly participate, embracing their cultural roots through song, dance, and rituals. A distinct feature of these fairs is the widespread consumption of toddy, a local alcoholic beverage made from the sap of palm trees, which adds to the festive spirit.
With its rich traditions and infectious energy, the Bhagoriya Haat remains one of Madhya Pradesh’s most cherished tribal celebrations, offering a unique blend of history, culture, and revelry.
