Har ki Pauri Sees Heavy Influx of Devotees Amid Tight Security
Haridwar, May 12 — Har ki Pauri ghat in Haridwar witnessed a massive turnout of devotees on Monday as thousands gathered to take a sacred dip in the Ganga river on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima.According to Hindu belief, Lord Vishnu descended to Earth as Gautam Buddha on this day, marking it as a spiritually significant event. Pilgrims from various parts of the country arrived in large numbers to participate in the holy ritual, seeking blessings and spiritual merit.
Security Strengthened Across Haridwar
In anticipation of the large crowds, security measures were ramped up across the city, confirmed Senior Superintendent of Police Pramendra Dobhal.All major ghats, including the iconic Har ki Pauri, saw additional deployment of police personnel, while drone surveillance was conducted to monitor the entire fair area and ensure public safety.
Traffic Disruptions Reported
Despite the robust arrangements, the overwhelming crowd led to traffic congestion at several locations in Haridwar. Authorities are working to manage the vehicular movement and ensure smooth transit for pilgrims and residents alike.The event marks yet another successful large-scale gathering at one of India's holiest sites, underscoring the cultural and religious significance of Buddha Purnima.
