Thane, February 27: In a major cybercrime case, three individuals have been arrested for allegedly hacking into the servers of a Thane-based software firm and wiping critical data, resulting in a financial loss of ₹1.51 crore, police reported on Thursday.

According to Mira Road Deputy Commissioner of Police Prakash Gaikwad, the accused gained unauthorized access to the company's system, which had developed an application called Magic Locker. The breach led to the resetting or formatting of data belonging to over 3.5 lakh customers.

The cyber attack, which reportedly took place in 2024, prompted the company to file a complaint, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) at the Nayanagar police station. The case has been filed under IPC Section 420 (cheating) and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.

Following an investigation, police arrested Manojkumar Chotelal Mourya and Himanshu Ashok Singh from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and Chandresh Lalji Bhartiya from Virar, Maharashtra on Monday. Authorities also seized three laptops from their possession as part of the evidence.

Further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the breach and any additional parties involved in the cyber attack.
