Authorities Crack Down on Misinformation Amid Public Panic

Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, May 12 — Police have registered cases against three individuals for allegedly posting fake videos on social media claiming a terrorist attack in Shahjahanpur, sparking panic among residents.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi confirmed on Monday that the district’s media monitoring cell had come across videos on Instagram and Facebook falsely suggesting a terror strike. The clips, which included fabricated audio of gunfire and text claiming “terror attack in Shahjahanpur,” created fear among the public.

"A case was registered on Sunday against Instagram user Ankit Kumar at the Cyber Crime police station, and another against Parvinder at the Kotwali police station," SP Dwivedi stated. An additional FIR has been filed against an unidentified person also at the Kotwali station.

SP Dwivedi emphasized the police's vigilance over digital platforms, warning that “strict action will be taken against those who spread fake news and create unnecessary panic.”

He urged citizens to refrain from sharing misleading content and to verify information before posting on social media.

Authorities continue to monitor online activity closely to curb the spread of false information and maintain public order.
