Police Seize Weapons, Car, and Butchering Equipment
Shahjahanpur (UP), April 1 – Three suspected cattle smugglers were arrested following an encounter with police in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district. The incident occurred late Monday night near the Kathina river in the Nigohi area, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi confirmed on Tuesday.
Acting upon a tip-off regarding a gathering of cattle smugglers, a police team reached the location, after which the suspects reportedly opened fire. Police retaliated, injuring two suspects, identified as Naseem (25) and Salman (28). The third accused, Afzal (29), was apprehended after a brief chase, while two other accomplices managed to escape.
All arrested individuals are residents of Talgaon village, falling under the jurisdiction of Nigohi police station.
During preliminary interrogation, Naseem, Salman, and Afzal confessed to slaughtering two cattle on March 28. Police had previously registered a case against unidentified persons concerning that incident.
Following the arrest, police recovered two country-made pistols, a car, and butchering equipment used by the accused. Naseem and Salman, who sustained bullet injuries, are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects, SP Dwivedi added.
