Sonbhadra (Uttar Pradesh), May 11 — Police have detained three individuals in Sonbhadra district for allegedly sharing manipulated and objectionable content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, officials confirmed on Sunday.

The matter came to light after Balgopal Chaurasia, a resident of Anpara Bazaar, lodged a formal complaint on Saturday. According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kalu Singh, Chaurasia accused Shabbir Ansari, Zubair Ansari, and Izhar — all residents of Anpara — of posting offensive content on their Facebook accounts.

The complaint stated that the trio used manipulated content originally created by a Pakistani YouTuber to craft posts aimed at discrediting the Prime Minister. The material was described as misleading and portrayed PM Modi in a false light.

Upon investigation, authorities found that the posts carried "anti-India" sentiments and raised suspicions of potentially sharing sensitive information with hostile entities, the ASP noted.

Following the probe, a case was registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and all three accused were taken into custody for further questioning.
