Jehanabad, Bihar – May 10:
A devastating road accident claimed the lives of three people, including a 14-year-old boy, and left over 20 others injured after a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck on National Highway 22 near the Lodipur bypass in Bihar's Jehanabad district in the early hours of Saturday.
The tragic incident occurred around 3 a.m. when the bus, carrying people returning from a marriage ceremony, collided with a commercial truck. Karauna Police Station Sub-Inspector Rajeev Ranjan confirmed the fatalities, identifying the deceased as Prince Kumar (14), Ayodhya Ram, and Chintamani.
“A police team reached the scene immediately upon receiving the alert. The injured were rushed to the nearest government hospital, and eight critically injured individuals have been referred to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for advanced medical care,” said SI Ranjan.
The bus driver is among those injured, while the truck driver reportedly fled the scene after the collision. Authorities have since seized the truck, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
According to local villagers, all passengers were returning from a marriage function at the time of the mishap. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations.
This latest tragedy underscores the recurring issue of road safety on Bihar’s highways, particularly during nighttime travel. Officials are continuing efforts to determine the exact circumstances leading to the collision.
