Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, February 28: In a tragic road accident near Chirgaon in Jhansi district, three pilgrims from Gujarat lost their lives while two others sustained critical injuries when their car collided with a truck in the early hours of Friday, police reported.
According to Superintendent of Police (Rural) Gopinath Soni, the accident occurred around 5 AM near the Chirgaon toll plaza on Kanpur Road. The Gujarat-registered vehicle, carrying pilgrims returning from Ayodhya to Gujarat, crashed into a truck while attempting to overtake.
The deceased have been identified as Jagdish Bhai, Vipin Bhai, and Kailash Ben, all aged between 45 and 50 years and residents of Surat, Gujarat. Two others, Bhavana Ben and a young girl named Mini, suffered critical injuries and were immediately rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination.
This tragic accident underscores the risks of night-time highway travel and reckless overtaking, emphasizing the need for heightened road safety measures.
