Three Workers Rescued After 16 Hours Stranded in Gujarat’s Harami Nala Creek

Bhuj, Feb 2 (PTI) – In a dramatic rescue operation, three employees of a private company were safely evacuated nearly 16 hours after being stranded in the tidal waters of Harami Nala near the India-Pakistan border in Gujarat’s Kutch district, officials said on Sunday.

The trio, working for Gujarat Heavy Chemicals Limited (GHCL), had ventured into the eastern part of the Harami Nala Creek area on Friday for a land survey using a dredging machine. However, they became stranded due to rising water levels, unable to make their way back, said Vikas Sunda, Superintendent of Police, Kutch West.

GHCL officials alerted authorities on Saturday morning, prompting a joint rescue mission by the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police.

"Based on their last known location, a coordinated search and rescue mission was launched immediately," SP Sunda told reporters.

Given the challenging terrain and hostile conditions, BSF teams deployed drone surveillance to pinpoint the stranded workers' location and assess their safety.

"The three men were found clinging to their dredging machine, which was nearly submerged in water. Once their condition was confirmed, the Indian Army and Air Force were put on standby, and an IAF helicopter was readied for assistance," Sunda added.

However, before aerial intervention was required, BSF personnel managed to navigate the waters using a boat and successfully rescued the workers.

The men, stranded for nearly 16 harrowing hours, were safely brought back without any injuries.

This incident highlights the dangers of working in remote coastal zones and the critical role of security forces in ensuring swift emergency responses in such treacherous environments.
