Thunderstorms with Gusty Winds Forecast in Andhra Pradesh from May 10 to 14: IMD

IMD forecasts Thunderstorms for parts of Andhra from May 10 to 14.webp

Amaravati, May 10 — The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 km/h in several parts of Andhra Pradesh between May 10 and 14.

According to the IMD release on Saturday, isolated places across North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema are likely to experience these weather disturbances.

No Significant Change in Temperature Expected

Despite the stormy forecast, the Met Department noted that there would be no major change in maximum temperatures across the state for the next seven days.

Weather Systems in Play

Meteorological data indicates a north–south trough extending from Marathwada to the Gulf of Mannar, passing through interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. This trough extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Additionally, a trough in the westerlies persists between 9.4 km and 12.6 km above mean sea level, stretching from eastern Uttar Pradesh to southeast Telangana, and passes through east Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha.

Southwest Monsoon Set to Advance

The IMD also reported that the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into the South Andaman Sea, parts of the Southeast Bay of Bengal, and the Nicobar Islands around May 13.

Meanwhile, lower tropospheric southwesterly and southerly winds are currently prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, which may contribute to the changing weather patterns in the region.

Residents are advised to stay updated on local weather alerts and take necessary precautions, especially in regions expected to be affected by thunderstorms and strong winds.
