Forest department on high alert as fatal tiger attacks rise in Sindewahi range

Chandrapur, May 11 – In a tragic incident that underscores the growing human-wildlife conflict in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district, a 65-year-old woman was killed by a tiger on Sunday morning. The victim, identified as Vimala Shinde, was a resident of Nagala village in Mul tehsil.

According to a senior forest official, Shinde had entered a forested area near her village to collect tendu leaves, a common forest product, when she was suddenly attacked and fatally mauled by the tiger.

This incident follows a similar and unusually deadly attack just a day earlier. On Saturday, three women were killed simultaneously by a tiger in Compartment No. 1355 of the Sindewahi Range Forest, raising serious concerns among both local residents and forest authorities.

The back-to-back fatal encounters have put the forest department on high alert. With four lives lost in two days, forest officials are expected to intensify surveillance and take urgent mitigation measures in the affected areas to prevent further loss of life.

Local communities have expressed growing fear over the rising number of tiger attacks in the region, which is part of a known tiger corridor.

Forest officials are currently investigating the incidents and are likely to initiate measures such as deploying rapid response teams, installing camera traps, and possibly tranquilizing and relocating the animal involved, if identified.
