Triple Fatal Attack in Sindewahi Range Raises Alarm
Chandrapur, May 10 – In a rare and tragic incident, a tiger mauled and killed three women at the same time and location in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district on Saturday morning. The attack occurred in Compartment No. 1355 of the Sindewahi Range Forest around 11:30 am, according to forest officials.The victims, identified as Kantabai Chaudhari (60), her daughter-in-law Shubhangi Chaudhari (38), and Sarika Shende (48), were residents of Mendha Mal village. They had ventured into the forest to collect tendu leaves, a seasonal forest produce, when they were fatally attacked by the tiger.
A senior official from the Chandrapur forest circle confirmed that all three women died at the scene. Their bodies were subsequently transported to the government hospital in Sindewahi for post-mortem examination.
Another Tiger Attack Reported Nearby
In a separate incident that took place approximately 5 kilometers from the original attack site, a 50-year-old woman named Vandana Gajbhiye was injured in another tiger encounter. She was reportedly attacked by the big cat while in the vicinity, raising further concern about tiger movement and public safety in the area.Forest Authorities on Alert
The back-to-back incidents have prompted heightened surveillance and response measures by forest officials. Authorities are expected to increase patrolling and possibly launch a search operation to track the tiger involved.The district, part of the wider tiger corridor in Maharashtra, has witnessed human-wildlife conflict in the past. However, multiple fatalities in a single attack are considered highly unusual and have intensified calls for immediate mitigation steps.
