Tigress Captured in Chandrapur After Killing Three Women; Search On for Cubs.webp

Chandrapur, Maharashtra, May 12 – The forest department in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district successfully captured a tigress on Monday, just two days after she mauled three women to death in the Sindewahi range of the Bramhapuri forest division.

The tragic incident on May 10 triggered an immediate response from forest officials, who deployed camera traps and live surveillance systems to monitor the tigress’s movements. Based on the tracking footage and behavioral cues, the animal was identified as the one responsible for the fatal attacks.

Forest teams, aided by a trained shooter, tracked the tigress to the Dongargaon area. Once spotted, the shooter tranquilised her with a dart, allowing the forest staff to safely capture the big cat.

A senior forest official confirmed the operation's success and stated that efforts are now underway to locate and capture the tigress's sub-adult cubs.

The operation reflects growing challenges in managing human-wildlife conflict in the region, where increasing interactions between local communities and wild animals have led to several such incidents.
