Tipra Motha MLA Urges Action to Detect and Deport Illegal Bangladeshi Nationals in Tripura.webp

Agartala, May 12 – Tipra Motha legislator Ranjit Debbarma has called upon the Centre, the Tripura government, and the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) to initiate a focused operation to detect and deport Bangladeshi nationals residing illegally in the state.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Debbarma expressed concern over the growing number of undocumented Bangladeshi migrants and Rohingya entrants across various regions of Tripura. He highlighted that illegal settlers were not only residing in slum clusters on government land and Reserved Forest areas but were also making their way into tribal council zones.

Allegations of National Security Threat

Debbarma alleged that the intruders had begun to permanently settle by constructing houses and acquiring Indian identity documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, and ration cards. He stressed that many were using Tripura as a gateway to travel across India, posing a serious internal security threat.

"The situation has become alarming. Illegal immigrants are even sending their children to local madrasas in border subdivisions like Sonamura, Kamalpur, Kailashahar, and Dharmanagar," he said.

Appeal to the Union Home Minister

Previously, the MLA had written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging the Centre to take decisive steps to deter illegal entrants to Bangladesh. Drawing comparisons to actions taken in Delhi, Gujarat, and Assam, where authorities conducted similar crackdowns, he emphasized the need for Tripura to act urgently.

Criticism of Administrative Inaction

Debbarma criticized the state government and the TTAADC for their "silence" on a critical issue that affects demographic balance and national security.

"In the current climate of heightened Indo-Pak tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, the unchecked presence of Bangladeshi nationals with alleged affiliations to Pakistan is deeply concerning," he stated.

Call for Mission-Mode Enforcement

The MLA has demanded that law enforcement agencies act in mission mode to identify, arrest, and deport illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. He urged that their unauthorized dwellings be demolished and the individuals be repatriated immediately.

"Immediate and stringent action must be taken to protect the interests of the indigenous people and maintain national security," Debbarma concluded.
