New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) – Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Shatrughan Sinha launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, dubbing him a "prachar mantri" (promotion minister) who allegedly spends 10 to 12 hours a day on self-promotion.
Speaking at a poll rally in support of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Atishi, Sinha, the actor-turned-politician, took multiple jabs at Modi, questioning his governance and unfulfilled promises.
"Our Honourable Promotion Minister"
Sinha sarcastically referred to Modi as the "honourable promotion minister", stating, "He is my friend and my prime minister. It is said that he works 18 hours a day, but I find him engaged in promotional activities for at least 10 to 12 hours. Be it councillor, MLA, or parliamentary elections—wherever you look, our honourable prime minister is always there."
The TMC leader, a prominent member of the opposition INDIA bloc, highlighted unfulfilled election promises, citing Modi's past commitments such as two crore jobs, doubling of farmers' income, and depositing ₹15 lakh in every Indian's bank account.
"Farmers' income has fallen instead of rising"
Criticizing the government's handling of the agricultural sector, Sinha remarked, "Farmers' income, which used to be ₹32 daily, has now fallen to ₹27. What will they eat? How will they manage their families? You can understand better than anyone else."
He also reminded the audience of Modi's jibes at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee before the 2021 assembly elections, claiming that the people had given the prime minister a "befitting reply" by re-electing her.
"I am speaking from the heart, not a teleprompter"
In another pointed remark, Sinha took a swipe at Modi's "Mann ki Baat" radio address, claiming that people were tired of it. "I am not reading from a teleprompter. I am not doing 'Mann ki Baat'—I am sharing my 'dil ki baat'. According to my 'dil ki baat', Atishi is the most deserving candidate."
He praised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, asserting that his governance model had gained national and global recognition.
"Money power vs. people's power"
Sinha accused opposition parties of using financial resources to manipulate voters but claimed that "people's power will prevail over money power."
The Asansol MP also criticized the recently announced Union Budget, calling it ineffective for the common man. He asserted that while the budget offered some benefits for Bihar, it lacked provisions that would bring real change to people’s lives.
"AAP is a tried, tested, and successful party"
Drawing parallels between his political career and AAP’s governance, Sinha said he entered politics without vested interests, just like Kejriwal’s party. "AAP is a tried, tested, and successful party. Others are misleading people with hollow promises," he said.
With Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5 and vote counting set for February 8, the political atmosphere continues to heat up as leaders sharpen their attacks ahead of polling day.
