Los Angeles, May 11 – Hollywood icon Tom Cruise steered clear of a politically charged question concerning former US President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on films shot outside the United States, during a press event for his upcoming action blockbuster Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

Cruise, 62, was in Seoul promoting the eighth installment of the globally successful Mission: Impossible franchise when the topic surfaced. At the press conference, a journalist sought his views on Trump’s recent announcement regarding a potential "100 per cent tariff" on foreign-shot films. Cruise declined to weigh in.

“We’d rather answer questions about the movie. Thank you,” Cruise was heard telling the event moderator off-mic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor returns as spy Ethan Hunt in the latest entry of the long-running franchise, which began in 1996. True to the series’ tradition, The Final Reckoning has been shot at multiple international locations under Paramount Pictures’ banner and is helmed by director Christopher McQuarrie.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is set for a theatrical release in India on May 17.

While Trump made headlines last week with his tariff proposal, the White House clarified on Monday that no final decision has yet been made.
