Shimla Fire Incident: Tourist Killed, Two Hospitalised
A fierce fire broke out at a private bed and breakfast accommodation in the Kachighati area of Shimla late Friday night, leaving one tourist dead and two others seriously injured. All three victims hailed from Maharashtra and had arrived in Shimla earlier the same day.The deceased has been identified as Ritesh, a resident of Koregaon in Maharashtra. His companions, Ashish and Avdhoot, who managed to escape the blaze, sustained severe burn injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Shimla’s Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital.
Fire Breaks Out Late at Night
The fire erupted around 11:30 pm while the three tourists were asleep. Although Ashish and Avdhoot escaped the burning accommodation, Ritesh was unable to evacuate and tragically lost his life in the flames. Other guests staying in adjacent rooms were safely rescued, preventing further casualties.Extensive Damage Reported
About half a dozen fire tenders promptly arrived at the scene, battling the flames for several hours before bringing the fire under control. Three rooms within the hotel were severely damaged, resulting in property losses estimated at lakhs of rupees.Investigation Indicates Possible Negligence
Preliminary police investigations suggest negligence by the accommodation owner. Authorities have registered a case under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 125 (endangering life) of the BNS. Further examinations into the accommodation's fire safety protocols are underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.The family members of the deceased tourist have been informed by the Shimla police. Authorities will hand over the body to the family following completion of the post-mortem examination.
Police continue to probe the matter thoroughly, emphasizing safety checks to prevent future occurrences.
