Trade Agreement Expected to Benefit Punjab Farmers, Says Jakhar.webp

Sunil Jakhar, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Punjab, has invited farmer organizations from the state to a dialogue regarding the India-US trade agreement. He stated that if farmers identify any shortcomings in the agreement, they should opt for discussion rather than agitation.

He reiterated that the agreement will not have any negative impact on farmers, particularly those in Punjab, and will instead benefit the industry and trade while creating new employment opportunities for the youth.

Speaking to the media after a meeting of party workers in Mohali yesterday, he emphasized that crops grown in Punjab, such as wheat, rice, maize, and sugarcane, are excluded from the scope of the agreement and will not affect farmers in any way.

Mr. Jakhar also appealed to farmer groups to clearly state their opinion on the impact the deal will have on Punjab's farmers. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is firmly committed to protecting farmers' interests, and this commitment has ensured that the interests of Punjab farmers are safeguarded in this agreement.
