Ambikapur, Feb 26: A devastating road accident in Chhattisgarh’s Surguja district claimed the lives of five Shiv devotees, including three minors, while five others sustained injuries after their SUV collided with a truck on Wednesday. The tragic incident occurred near Vishunpur village under the Sitapur police station limits around 1 pm, as the victims were returning to their village, Revapur, after offering prayers at a Shiv temple in Kilkila on the occasion of Mahashivratri.
According to officials, the SUV, a Bolero, was hit by an oncoming truck, resulting in a fatal crash. Among the deceased were Rajkumar Agaria (55), his daughter Anjali (25), Suraj Agaria (14), and one-year-old Mahi, who died on the spot. Six others were rushed to Ambikapur Medical College Hospital, where 12-year-old Ayush was declared dead on arrival. The remaining five injured victims are currently undergoing treatment.
Following the accident, enraged locals set the truck ablaze after the driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Authorities have launched an investigation and are working to track down the absconding driver.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai extended condolences to the grieving families and directed the district administration to ensure medical assistance for the injured.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, while efforts are underway to ensure justice for the victims and their families.
