Tarn Taran, Punjab, March 1: In a tragic incident in Punjab's Tarn Taran district, five members of a family lost their lives early Saturday after the roof of their house collapsed while they were sleeping.
The unfortunate incident took place around 4:30 AM in Pandori Gola village, according to police reports. Preliminary investigations revealed that the house structure was already in a weakened and dilapidated state. Additionally, heavy waste material stored on the roof added excess weight, causing the sudden collapse.
Neighbours immediately rushed to the family's rescue and transported them to a nearby hospital. However, the victims were declared brought dead upon arrival.
The deceased have been identified as Gobinda (40), his wife Amarjit Kaur (36), and their three children: sons Gurlaal (17), Gurbaj Singh (14), and daughter Ekam (15). The police have confirmed that the bodies have been sent for postmortem examinations to determine further details.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire village, highlighting concerns regarding housing safety standards in rural areas.
