New Delhi, February 13 Telecom regulator TRAI plans to introduce an appeal feature in the DND app to enable consumers to escalate unresolved complaints to higher authorities for action, a top official said on Friday.
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti told reporters that the regulator will launch a revamped MyCall app in March to enable consumers to file complaints about call quality.
While launching the revamped DND and MySpeed apps, Lahoti said the new DND app, designed to report spam calls and SMS, will be available in multiple language options.
He said that the multilingual option is important for adoption, particularly in remote areas and rural areas, where complaints can be registered in regional languages with fewer steps, improved preference management, and more reliable support for dual SIM ports.
"In the future, we will also incorporate an appeal feature so that a consumer who is not satisfied with the service provider's response can file an appeal through the app itself," Lahoti said.
TRAI Chairman did not indicate a timeline for adding the appeal feature to the DND app.
This move will help consumers report spam calls and SMS that have been closed by telecom operators due to incorrect reasons. He said that the importance of the DND app can be easily assessed from the fact that out of the 31 lakh UCC complaints received in 2025, 17 lakh, which is more than half, were reported through TRAI's DND app.
"You can now know the name of the sender of an SMS header or a particular 1,600 series number from the app itself," Lahoti said.
TRAI also unveiled a revamped MySpeed app.
The new MySpeed app will also come with multilingual support.
"The revamped app is designed to test speeds obtainable with 5G technology. Besides mobile connectivity, the consumer can also test the speed obtained on fixed-line broadband or Wi-Fi," Lahoti said.
The revamped MySpeed also has a web portal for testing the speed obtained on your laptop.
"The new app also enables testing of real-world usage conditions, i.e., video streaming and web browsing. The experience in video streaming and web browsing can be adversely affected due to jitter and packet loss. Besides speed and latency, the new app also measures jitter and packet loss," Lahoti said.
