Trichy Youth Appeals for Road Safety After Viral Stunt on Chennai Highway

Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu | March 3, 2025:

A 28-year-old man from Tiruchirappalli, who gained notoriety for performing dangerous bike stunts on the Trichy-Chennai National Highway, has made a public appeal urging everyone to prioritize road safety and wear helmets.

Identified as P Balakrishnan, a construction worker from E Pudur, the young man came under police scrutiny after a viral video showed him riding a two-wheeler on February 25 in an alarming manner. In the video, Balakrishnan was seen sitting casually on the bike's pillion seat, completely hands-free, without even touching the handlebar or throttle.

The footage quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing widespread criticism and astonishment. Many questioned how he maintained control of the bike, given the evident risks involved in such a stunt.

Acting swiftly on the incident, the Tiruchirappalli Police seized the sports bike involved on March 2, booking Balakrishnan for reckless riding. Following the police action, he was given a stern warning and subsequently released on bail.

Acknowledging his mistake publicly, Balakrishnan recorded a video message with folded hands, emphasizing, “Don't make this mistake, wear a helmet.” He further explained that the police had arrested him, registered a case, and seized his vehicle. In a heartfelt plea, he strongly advised others, “No one should do this again.”

The incident highlights the growing concerns surrounding road safety and the necessity for responsible riding behavior on busy highways.
