In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint operation conducted by the Customs Department and Border Security Force (BSF) resulted in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of 100 kg cannabis in Tripura's South district.

The raid took place on Friday night at Lilagarh Tea Garden located in the Sabroom subdivision, following actionable intelligence received by authorities.

Elbin Singh, Superintendent of the Customs Department, said that upon receiving the tip-off, the BSF and Customs officials swiftly formed a joint team. The team then intercepted two vehicles in the Chhotakhil area, where they discovered and seized 100 kg of cannabis after a thorough search.

During the operation, authorities also seized three mobile phones—including one iPhone—and Rs 1,49,000 in cash from the accused.

The three suspects are currently under interrogation as investigations continue.

This seizure highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies in Tripura to curb cross-border smuggling and drug trafficking activities.
