High-Level Security Review Held; Border Monitoring Tightened

Agartala, May 10 — Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday emphasized the need for seamless coordination among security agencies in the state amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The statement followed a high-level security review meeting held with representatives from the Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and state police.

Saha said the meeting was convened to assess Tripura's preparedness in the wake of the ongoing military conflict, which intensified after the Pahalgam terror attack. “I told the security agencies to maintain coordination among them to deal with any kind of situation. Instruction was also given to maintain strict vigil along the state’s border with Bangladesh,” he stated.

SOPs from Centre in Place, Focus on Border Security

The Chief Minister confirmed that the Centre has circulated a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to the states, outlining guidelines to follow during the current geopolitical tensions. “The Centre has already sent a list of dos and don’ts for the states. Our security agencies are working on the guidelines set by the Centre,” he said.

When asked whether Tripura, which shares a significant border with Bangladesh, faces any immediate threats, Saha assured that the government’s priority is heightened preparedness.

Airport Security Heightened Amid Geopolitical Tension

In light of the proximity of the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport—just 1.5 km from the international border—airport authorities have sought additional security assistance from the BSF. This move aims to bolster surveillance and ensure the safety of the region's only operational airport.

Tripura shares an 856-kilometre-long border with Bangladesh, making it a strategically sensitive location during heightened national security alerts.
